Lillian’s Date Drop Cookies

An old-fashioned brown sugar cookie with dates and pecans.

I found this recipe today just as I was about to begin my holiday cookie baking. It was hand written on a small piece of notebook paper tucked in the Betty Crocker Cooky Book Ken’s Great Aunt Dee had given me a couple of years ago. The book had belonged to her mother, Lillian.

This is the first Christmas we won’t be getting our annual call from Aunt Dee wishing us a Merry Christmas. She passed away this past summer. It’s funny I should find this recipe today. Just a few weeks ago at Thanksgiving, Ken’s dad had mentioned how good these date cookies were as we were recalling old family recipes – and he wasn’t sure where the recipe for them was. Who knew I had it all along. I have two copies of the Cooky Book, so I somehow missed the recipe tucked in this copy for all those years.

Anyway, I had to make it. I hope you’ll give it a try too. Here’s the recipe…
